Who we are

Airscenes was founded by Philippe Cyr-Pelletier, who has spent some twenty years in music and the performing arts: on stage, in production, then running a venue and a festival.
That experience gave us a deep understanding of how the industry works, and where it gets stuck. Airscenes grew out of it: structuring, centralizing and automating the work of performing arts professionals.
Our story
How we got here
After a bachelor's in jazz guitar performance at Université Laval (2004–2008), I'm a musician, producer and manager with QNJ (Quebec Nu-Jazz) from 2007 to 2011. From 2011 to 2016, I'm Director of Operations at Avalanche Production and M for Montréal, while completing a master's in cultural enterprise management at HEC Montréal. I see the industry from every angle, and above all the time lost hunting for information.
In 2017, I take over as executive and artistic director of the Café culturel de la Chasse-galerie, which I lead until 2022. From 2018 to 2020, I also run the Festival Mémoire et racines. At Chasse-galerie, four of us put on close to 150 events a year. I dream of a tool where all of the organization's information lives in one place, complete and easy to find.
After wasting time on tools that didn’t fit, my friend Maurice at Avalanche Productions shows me how he runs parts of M for Montréal in Airtable. I see the potential right away: a real relational database, online for the whole team, connected to our tools like Lepointdevente.com, and something I can build myself, without code.
During the pandemic, I build the system Chasse-galerie needs: artistic programming, front of house, accounting, payroll. Everything a small team needs to stop redoing the same tasks.
In late 2022, I decide to put this expertise to work for fellow presenters and producers. The name is a nod to the stage… and to Airtable.
Programming, venue rental, volunteers, school groups, crew scheduling, accounting, marketing follow-up: every project adds a module. Some forty organizations now work with our systems.
Airtable took us far, but we hit its limits: US-based servers, record caps, per-user costs that keep climbing. So we built the Airscenes app from everything we learned: our modules, in software you own, hosted in Canada.
